Esta es la breve nota biográfica que Ricardo Reis escribió sobre su coheterónimo y maestro Alberto Caeiro, a lo que añadirá en otro texto: “La obra de Alberto Caeiro representa la reconstrucción integral del paganismo, en su esencia absoluta, tal y como ni los griegos ni los romanos, que vivieron en él y, por tanto, no lo pensaron, pudieron hacerlo: sin embargo, ni la obra ni su paganismo, fueron pensados ni sentidos: le llegaron como lo que quiera que haya en nosotros de más profundo que el sentimiento o la razón. Decir más sería explicar, lo que no sirve de nada; afirmar menos sería mentir”.
